A Black Voice in the Wilderness
Abstract
This article/commentary discusses my development as a poet/djeli in relation to the larger African-American quest to define our cultural identity as Americans of African descent. My personal journey into consciousness began as a college student during the early 1970s studying under the guidance of Nigeria’s Chief Fela Sowande.
