Burying the Living
Abstract
I could safely declare that I’m addicted to my Saturday stint in Ekeonunwa. I hate shopping at the market on Saturdays but for some unknown reasons I’ve been unable to stop myself from returning there every Saturday for almost three years now. There are so many things to hate about this most popular market in Owerri on a Saturday. No matter the route you choose to escape the crowd you are bound to meet a throng of weekend shoppers. The jostle and the pushing not only makes you sweat but forces you to step into mushy garbage you could have sidestepped if that last push hadn’t forced you to miss a step. If you escape the human crush, the wheelbarrows used for hauling food could send you to a chemist, or worse still, a clinic.
