Abstract

From very early in the morning the drummers would beat out rhythms as old as time on their deep throated drums, I believe those rhythms are as old as Aiye, the earth herself. They would sing the stories of our lineage; they would sing of our bravery, our cowardice; they would sing of the men and women who had travelled from far off places to establish us in this land; of women richer than Mansa Musa, men braver than Ogun.
