In the Case of Nafissatou Diallo...Race Matters!

Pauline E. Bullen

Abstract

This paper focuses on the negative and stereotypical depiction of Nafissatou Diallo, a Black woman from Guinea, as a result of her lawsuit against a white French man, Dominique Strauss-Kahn—a man with great economic and political clout. It examines the obtrusive and insidious ways in which racism influences our everyday thoughts, beliefs, customs, practices and overall culture and reveals much about the nation and its racist colonial legacy.

Keywords
