The New Vitalism: Towards A Cultural and Philosophical Study of Biotechnology in Africa
Abstract
Senghor refashioned a Bergsonian critique of the intellect and the metaphysical assumptions of the ideal of homo faber. This critique has new relevance in light of the emergence of biotechnology, which has widened the scope of the activities of homo faber to manipulation of living organisms. I set out here to renew the discussion of Senghorian philosophy in the context of biotechnology.
