Modern African Nationalistic-Ideological Philosophy: Its Controversial Development in Malawi (1958-2012)

Abstract


This essay argues that modern political thought in Malawi (1958-2012) manifests a unique and controversial African Nationalistic-Ideological Philosophy traceable in two forms. The first is Kwacha Nationalistic Philosophy represented by President Banda (1898-1997), which builds on Black Consciousness, Pan-Africanism and Contextualism. The second one is the current Positive African Philosophy of the late President Mutharika (1934-2012), which builds on African Renaissance (2009-2012). Both systems are characterized by mixed worldwide reactions ranging from admiration to loath and the isolation of Malawi.
