Yoruba Ye Mi: A Beginning Yoruba Textbook was designed, written and developed by Fehintola Mosadomi, a professor in Middle Eastern Studies and African and African Diaspora Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. As a linguist, Mosadomi's interests include poetry, language pedagogy, language and power, language and gender, feminist studies, African linguistics, semantics, and Francophone studies. She is also an accomplished poet. This open access, print-on-demand textbook will help beginning learners of Yoruba develop communicative skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, the book will provide learners with an understanding of how to use Yoruba appropriately in a range of cultural contexts. The materials present the language and culture of the Yoruba-speaking people of South-western Nigeria through various forms of media: scripted, recorded dialogues and videos of unscripted interaction. Ample use of playful tongue twisters, songs, games, and poetry facilitates the learning of tones in a fun and user-friendly way. The textbook is ideal to language learners and provides them with basic listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills of language learning in Yoruba. The book contains effective techniques for teaching and learning Yoruba.
