About The Author

Joanna Warson

Joanna has a BA and an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and has recently begun her PhD at the University of Portsmouth, under the supervision of Professor Martin Evans and Professor Tony Chafer. Her doctoral research examines French policy and perceptions of Anglophone Africa in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, focusing particularly on the case study of Rhodesia. In 2009, Joanna’s undergraduate dissertation, entitled ‘Britain, France and the Nigerian Civil War, 1967-1970’, was awarded the runner up prize in the Society for the Study of French History’s competition for the best final year undergraduate dissertation produced in a UK university. She has since been awarded two postgraduate travel grants from the society to fund visits to the archives in Paris and Nantes for her MSc and PhD research.
