Sir Victor Uwaifo is a popular musician and a super talented guitarist, writer, sculptor, and inventor. He hails from the Edo state in Nigeria. A man of many talents, he is best known for his joromi style of high-life music. He also created the Akwete rhythm sounds and combines pidgin and Edo dialects to create mesmerizing music. One of his biggest hits, “Joromi†released in 1969 earned him the first Golden record in Nigeria. Two of his other massive hits, “Guitar Boy†and “Mami Water†were inspired by an encounter he had with the water diety at Bar Beach in Lagos. As impressive as that is, Sir Victor Uwaifo and his bands, Melody Maestros and the Titibitis released over 100 songs in the 1970s. As an inventor, he created the Revolving Magic Guitar, which can spin at 360 degrees angle and has 10 times the speed of an ordinary guitar with organ keyboard combined. In 1983, he was the recipient of the Nigerian National Honors (MON), and in 2011, he composed the music for the Nigerian University Games Anthem. He holds a Bachelor's (first class honors and valedictorian), and a Master's degree in Sculpture. During public performances, Sir Victor Uwaifo often plays his guitar with his feet and tongue.
