Emmanuel N'Djoké Dibango, simply referred to as Manu Dibango, is a well-known, revered, and internationally recognized Cameroonian-born musician and songwriter. His exudes coolness with his signature bald head, dark glasses, and saxophone. Dibango has been making music for over 50 years. He developed a musical style that fuses jazz, funk, and traditional Cameroonian music to create musical bliss. Dibango is considered one of founding fathers of world music. His influence on countless musical genres as well as musicians around the world cannot be underestimated. His mega hit, “Soul Makossa†became the first gold record from an African artist in the United States. The song remains one of the most sampled songs ever produced. Dibango was named UNESCO’s Peace Artist of the Year in 2004. His still performs.
